McCain Wants More DADT Repeal Studies, Responds to Wife's NoH8 Ad (video)

Albert Einstein once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

It's time for an intervention in the McCain household. The mood swings, personalty changes and delusional rants are a clear indication that Senator Grumpy and his wife Sybil are ready for a much needed makeover that includes matching designer straight jackets and some lovely rubber wallpaper for their home with tranquil pictures of puffy clouds, sweet little butterflies and playful puppies and kitties. At the very least, someone needs to check their meds.

The senator appeared on "Meet The Press" Sunday, where he was asked about his wife's recent public cry for help via her participation in the NoH8 Campaign's anti-bullying PSA, her momentary opposition to DADT, her recognition of the government's role in creating a hostile environment for LGBT youth, followed by her subsequent back-peddling just hours after the ad went public on Friday.

Host David "Lurch" Gregory asked the former maverick and soon to be Depends spokesman, "Are you going to stand in the way — you personally — in the way of this ban being lifted?"

McCain responded in standard Republican form by denying the evidence:
I have not seen that study, and this study was directed at how to implement the repeal, not whether the repeal should take place or not.

But very importantly, we have people like the commandant of the Marine Corps, the three other — all four service chiefs are saying  we need a thorough and complete study of the effects — not how to implement a repeal — but the effects on morale and battle effectiveness. That’s what I want, and once we get this study, we need to have hearings and we need to examine it, and we need to look at whether it’s the kind of study that we wanted.

It isn’t in my view because I wanted a study to determine the effects of the repeal on battle effectiveness and morale. What this study is designed to do is to find out how the repeal could be implemented. Those are two very different aspects of this issue.
In other words, despite the 20 or so surveys that have been done since DADT went into effect, that have shown a consistent waning of support for keeping it in place, Senator Looney Tunes wants yet another study -- and another and another -- until one of them shows the results he wants to see.

As for his his schizophrenic wife, the Grumpy Old Man says he respects the First Amendment rights of all his family members (especially when he can twist their arms until they agree with him).

Gregory asked McCain if it was fair to say that repeal is not going to happen during the lame duck session, which starts this week. The Arizona Ass Hat replied, "...I don’t think it should be because I think once the study comes out in the beginning of December, we should at least have a chance to review it and maybe have hearings on it."

The Palm Center, a UCLA-based think tank, released the following statement on Sunday in response to McCain's interview:
"Senator McCain's latest criticism of the Pentagon study uses the same tactic that anti-gay activists have employed for decades. When the evidence doesn't support the reasons they offer for discrimination, they just turn the data upside down. In this case, the Pentagon report is expected to be 90% supportive of the idea that gays don't harm the military, so the Senator's only option is to pretend that it is 50-50. His views do not reflect the evidence or the facts about gays in the military."

Breaking: Dissociative Personality Disorder Spreads Through the McCain Household!

Will the Real Cindy McCain please Stand Up?

Just yesterday I reported on the story that took the interwebs by storm. Cindy McCain, wife of homo hater John "Grumpy Old Man" McCain, took part in the NoH8 Campaign's latest celebrity-filled project aimed at preventing suicide among LGBT youth. In the video, Cindy, whom I'll now refer to only as "Sybil", showed what many believe to be her true personality, when she said,
“Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future. They can’t serve our country openly. What’s worse, these laws that legislate discrimination teach bullies that what they’re doing is acceptable. Our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens, why shouldn’t they?”
That was the personality that, along with daughter Meghan, posed with duct tape over her mouth for the now infamous NoH8 Campaign photo shoot protesting DADT, the discriminatory law that her husband once said he would help to abolish once military leaders came to him and said they wanted it repealed. That day came months ago when SecDef Gates and Joint Chiefs Chairman Mullen did exactly that when they called for repeal.

Since then, the Grumpy Old Man of the senate has been ranting, raving, shaking his cane and fighting tooth and nail to keep repeal from happening. It was against this backdrop that the McCain women broke with the failed presidential contender and started being the sensible ones in the family. But something horrible happened yesterday. Something so traumatic that Sybil's personality split in two, because at 7:30 pm Friday, she tweeted the following:

"I fully support the NOH8 campaign and all it stands for and am proud to be a part of it. But I stand by my husband's stance on DADT."

I am torn between the anger I feel for this seeming self contradiction and sympathy for the woman who poked the bear once too often. What must have happened to silence this once strong, independent woman?

Watch: Cindy McCain Speaks Out Against Bullying, DADT in New NoH8 Campaign Video

The Trevor Project has launched it's latest NoH8 Campaign video this week with a start-studded lineup that includes Kiss front man, Gene Simmons, Celebrity Rehab's Dr. Drew, Dancing With the Stars' Tom Bergeron, Ex-Mrs. Charlie Sheen Denise Richards and Survivor's Jeff Probst, to name a few. Perhaps the most notable famous face is that of John "Grumpy Old Man" McCain's wife Cindy, who took part in the NoH8 photo campaign last year with daughter Meaghan.

McCain takes on her husband and the conserva-tards, saying, “Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future. They can’t serve our country openly.”

Other celebs add, “What’s worse, these laws that legislate discrimination teach bullies that what they’re doing is acceptable.” McCain says this adds to the self doubt and self-loathing queer kids may feel, and asks, “Our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens, why shouldn’t they?”
You gotta love those McCain women.

Cindy and Meghan McCain Featured in NoH8 Photo Campaign

Megan McCain has made a name for herself as the new face of the Republican Party in recent years by embracing a core conservative value: less government interference in the lives of private citizens.

The younger McCain's pro-gay position has put her at odds with the hard core "family values" folks in the GOP and her very vocal support of same-sex marriage during the '08 presidential campaign was in direct opposition to her father's support for "opposite" marriage.

Now it's seems it's the McCain women who have the most sense in the family and who, unlike moose-huntin', baby-granny Sarah Palin, understand what it means to be a maverick. Meghan and Cindy McCain are lending their support -- and faces -- to the new pro-marriage equality NoH8 Campaign.

The group made the announcement yesterday on its website:
In the year since we've started the NOH8 Campaign, we've often been surprised at some of the different individuals who have approached us showing their support. Few, though, have surprised us more than Cindy McCain - the wife of Senator John McCain and mother to vocal marriage equality advocate Meghan McCain. The McCains are one of the most well-known Republican families in recent history, and for Mrs. McCain to have reached out to us to offer her support truly means a lot. Although we had worked with  Meghan McCain before and were aware of her own position, we'd never really thought the cause might be something her mother would get behind. We have a huge amount of respect for both of these women for being brave enough to make it known they support equal marriage rights for all Americans.
